Women and Spirit: Catholic Sisters in America
LCWR
has mounted an exhibit on the rich history and contributions of Catholic sisters
in the United States. The exhibit opened at Cincinnati Museum Center on May 16,
2009. Through photographs, artifacts and documentary material drawn from the
archives of many congregations,
Women & Spirit: Catholic
Sisters in America, tells
how sisters played a vital role in shaping American life from before the
earliest days of the republic and throughout its history. You will
meet women who corresponded with
President Thomas Jefferson, talked down bandits and roughnecks, lugged pianos
into the wilderness, and provided the nation’s first health insurance to
Midwestern loggers. Discover sisters’ courage during the Civil War, the Gold
Rush, the San Francisco Earthquake, the Influenza Epidemic, the Civil Rights
Movement, and Hurricane Katrina.
