DOMINICAN ALLIANCE TEN YEAR CELEBRATION
Collaborating: Dancing the Step; Preaching: Singing the Song; Visioning: Watching the Wind.”
What a gathering and celebration it was. On October 26-28, 2007 about 230 Dominican Associates and Sisters gathered from thirteen congregations to celebrate the tenth year anniversary of the Dominican Alliance.
The
opening ritual honored the four "founding sisters":Rose Miriam Schulte, OP
(Springfield), Therese Leckert, OP (St. Mary's New Orleans)Bernie
Baltranic, OP (Akron), and Susan Snyder, OP (Kenosha). The Alliance
now has thirteen member congregations.
Mary Jean Traeger, OP (Springifeld) gave the opening address. You can see and hear this on God Tube. Click here She reminded everyone of the original seed of the dream of the Dominican alliance with these words, “The Alliance was never really about structure, but about carrying out the Mission of the Gospel, fostering relationships and carrying out a new vision.” Take time to watch the presentation. You will not want to miss the encounter of Mary (Mary Jean) and Elizabeth (Elaine des Rosiers, OP (Kentucky) as they talk about what it was like when their children were young.
Mary Jean's challenge to the Alliance is that in the coming ten years, we must find new ways: to carry forward the Dominican motto: To Praise, To Bless and to Preach.
There were many personal witness stories offered by various members of the Alliance conveying to all new and old alike the true spirit of the Alliance. Kathleen Ann Tait, OP (Springfield) who represented Kaleidoscope, the group of younger and newer Dominicans. Common life in the House of Preaching in Chicago was described by Connie Schoen, OP (Oxford) and Mary McNulty, OP (Sinsinawa), with Ancilla Caulfield, OP (Springfield) and Elyse Marie Ramirez, OP (Springfield). A panel of people gave their pieces of the Allaince story as it helped shaped a response to Katrina. They were Robin Richard, OP (St. Mary’s), JoAnn Niehaus, OP (Houston), Jeanne Moore, OP (EMD) and Laetitia Anne Campbell, OP (Kentucky.)
