The ice storm that moved across the country really hit Kentucky very hard.  More people were left without power than ever before in Kentucky history.  At the height of the storm over 800.000 Kentuckians were without power and heat.  Governor Beshear activiated every one of the state's 4600 National Guard members.  The death toll has now reached 30.  What was also very evident is the deep down goodness of the people.  Everyone tried to help each other.  St. Catharine's did not lose power but suffered great property damage (trees and shrubs).  You have seen the beauty of the winter wonderland now look at the pictures taken after the thaw.    There is hardly a tree at St. Catharine's that did not sustain some damage.  The very young and most recently planted seem to have escaped the damage. Once we have finished the cleanup, we will take a very close look at everything. Many, many trees will have to be taken down completely.  We will soon begin replacing the trees, but this will be a slow and expensive project.    Be sure to click for a larger view.
