EARTH RETREAT CABINS
Mr. Robert Fairchild a resident
near Berea, Kentucky, was selected to help design and build two earth
cabins. Construction began in March of 1998 and was
completed in May of
1999. These cabins are used by people who want some time away for prayer
and solitude and reconnecting with the earth.

The St. Catharine Kentucky Dominicans began recycling in 1988. As
interest and involvement by the sisters and staff grew, it was evident that a
storage and a sorting place were needed. Two old-abandoned farm structures were
used to broaden the recycling efforts. Again it became clear that larger
facilities were needed. The designs for the Center were a team effort with
input from the Earth Education Coordinator, Sisters Appoline Simard and Sr.
Narcisa Barreto-Perez (sisters in charge of the recycling projects), Mark
Cothern and Sr. Claire McGowan. The second floor of the Recycling Center
serves as offices for the Dominican Earth Center.
