US ARMY SCHOOL OF THE AMERICAS by any other name ...

On December 2, 1980 the lives of Sr. Ita Ford, M.M., Jean Donovan, Sr. Maura Clarke, M.M., and Sr. Dorothy Kazel, O.S.U. were united forever as they were brutally and savagely raped and murdered in El Salvador.  Graduates of the US Army School of the Americas were responsible for their deaths as well as the deaths of Archbishop Romero and countless other rapes and massacres in Latin America.

In December, 2000 the Army announced that it was closing its doors.  This would have been reason to rejoice except that they neglected to announce that on January 17, 2001 the SOA would reopen as the Western Hemisphere Institute for Security Cooperation.  This is a "new" school is in the same location, Ft. Benning in Georgia with the same old agenda: to train Latin American soldiers in commando tactics, military intelligence, psychological operations and combat arms and continue to dissass.  Some members of Congress continue to support and promote this training facility.  A growing movement of outraged citizens is standing up to call for the school's closure. These citizens are spreading the word about this un-American institution and urging their members of Congress to close the school.

Sr. Barbara Ann holds the white cross which was added to many, many others as a visual reminder of those who have died.
