HISTORY
Initial conversations about a "closer
union" among Dominican women's congregations began about ten years ago.
These conversations gave birth to the formation of a Federation of
Dominican women in the United States. A smaller group made up of four
and then eight Dominican groups also began to come together to discuss
possibilities for the future. These eight groups formed what is known
as the Dominican Alliance. The Alliance now numbers 13
congregations, the latest group to join are the Dominicans of Racine,
Wisconsin. Over the years we have discovered
that our mutuality is found in our common Dominican heritage and our
commitment to mission. We have agreed that we want to enter into this
relationship for the sake of carrying our mission into the future and
more effectively sharing resources. We bring the strength of
commitment, financial stability and a long history of ministry to this
relationship.

Building relationships among the
congregations involved is critical. The Central Leadership of
the twelve congregations meet regularly. They also believe that
it is critical to build relationship among the membership of each
congregation. They have decided to focus upon key facets of
Dominican life and mission and initiate processes that would involve
the members and Directors. (In some cases the Directors
meet with Directors that include and extend beyond the members of the Dominican Alliance.)

opportunity to build relations and to explore possibilities of
collaboration for the sake of the mission. A convergence of energy,
