The effects of the ice storm that hit Kentucky are still painfully evident at St. Catharine's. We have had to remove fifteen of our beautiful tress. Walking or driving down Locust Lane brings a tear to our eyes. Yet, as the days grew warmer the annual question began to circulate around the Motherhouse, "Are the jonquils out in the valley?" Day after day we would ask Mark or Charles, two of the men on the maintenance staff St. Catharine, "Well, are they out?" They would say, "they are beginning to show themselves but not quite open yet." Finally! Finally! We heard what we wanted to hear. "The jonquils are out!" It wasn't long before Sister Patricius asked for a ride across Cartwright Creek. She and Charles armed with buckets took that yearly ride and soon there were bouquets of jonquils all over the house. Once again, our hope was renewed. To read why the jonquil means so much to us, click here.
