Mary Catherine O'Brien was born January 8, 1908, in Cambridge, MA.  The daughter of Patrick T. and Katherine Mary Brosnan, both from County Kerry, Ireland.  She was one of eight children; all but her sister Rita have preceded her in death.

On September 7, 1930, she followed her sister, Sister Ulicia, to St. Catharine Novitiate where she received the name Rose Vincent.  She was professed April 30, 1932.

Her first teaching assignment was at Holy Rosary Academy, Louisville.  She then taught at St. Catharine Academy/College for seven years.  Except for four years back at St. Catharine (1956-1960) her entire ministry was in Watertown, MA.

At St. Patrick's she served in various positions as superior, principal, teacher and accountant.  At Rosary Academy she was prefect, teacher, sub-prioress and principal.  From 1990 until 2002, when she came to Sansbury Care Center, she remained at Rosary Manor in Community Service.

Sister Rose Vincent earned an BA in Latin/Chemistry from Emmanuel College, Boston, an MA in Math/Chemistry from Catholic University, Washington, DC, and an MS in Chemistry/Physics from Notre Dame, South Bend, IN.

Her students remember her as an outstanding and demanding teacher.  She had a tremendous capacity for loyalty and friendship as evidenced by Sr. Alphonsa's devotion to her even through her final years at Sansbury.

Her humor and love of life came through sometimes at unexpected moments.  In later years at Rosary Manor one of her grandest delights was to "dog-sit" Trixie.

At Sansbury, Sister Rose Vincent demonstrated a sense of peace and kindness that endeared her to the staff and residents.

May she now enjoy an eternal reunion with her beloved O'Brien clan.

I am sure that the O'Brien clan and the Dominican Clan have already had afternoon tea and maybe a wee slice of soda bread.
