DOMINICAN LEADERSHIP CONFERENCE MEETS IN LOUISVILLE
Over 140 Dominican
Leadership Conference members and guests moved closer to the Frontiers of the
Holy Preaching at the DLC Annual Meeting held here October 12-16, 2007. The
group engaged in a dialogical process that included explorations of our common
future and the wider international dimensions of Dominican life. The excitement
and passion that accompanies new exploration was evident at the meeting.
One
special happening for the Dominicans of St. Catharine was the day trip to the
founding land of Dominicans. We were prepared for the trip by first being
given a marvelous presentation
Frontier Preaching in the Kentucky Holy Lands

OP (Sinsinawa), Interim Director of the McGreal Center for Dominican Historical
Studies.

Janet set the context for our pilgrimage with a captivating overview of the
origins of the Order in the pioneer days of Ohio and Kentucky..
Participants then
boarded the bus and began the pilgrimage out to St. Rose. The day was
spectacular - sun shining and temperatures mild. After walking around St.
Rose hill we slowly moved into the church where Dominic Izzo,OP,
Provincial of the Province of St. Joseph, spoke directly about the St. Rose
Priory. Joye Gros, OP, President of the Dominicans of St. Catharine,
Kentucky told about Mother Angela Sansbury and the foundation of the sisters.
after singing Salve and O Lumen we left for St. Catharine Motherhouse for lunch,
tours and further leanings about the Province. The Sisters living at the
Motherhouse welcomed us and showered the group with their warm hospitality.
Daniel
Cardrin, Op from the Dominican International Commission spoke to the group about
borders and about building bridges at the frontier in order to connect with
people. When you are at the border you need to do a lot of listening, waiting
and hoping. Responders to Fr. Daniel's presentation were Roberto Corral,
OP and Catherine Hilkert, OP
As
always we heard from from other entities Toni Harris, OP from International
Co-Promoter of Peace and Justice and Care of the Earth, Toni also read a
letter sent by Sr. Maria Fabiola Velasquez Maya, OP the newly elected
International Coordinator of Dominican Sisters International.
Therese Antoine, OP (Trinidad)
Representative of CODALC, Confederation of Dominicans in Latin America and the
Caribbean
