Sisters and Associates in Mission
Vocation
Dominican sisters and associates of St.
Catharine, Kentucky, are persons called to live the Dominican charism with one
another
as seekers and preachers of truth.
Our vocation commits us to enflesh the Gospel by our choice
to live simply, lovingly and discerningly;
to integrate the core elements of Dominican life:
prayer, study, community, and ministry;
and to embrace wholeheartedly our mission and vision.
Associate Identity
Associates are women and men
who enter into a covenant relationship
with the Dominicans whose roots originated
at St. Catharine, Kentucky in 1822.
This covenant is the associate's response to
and the community's affirmation of
a call from God
to live the Dominican vocation, charism and mission
in communion with sisters and other associates.
Associates
share in the mission and life of the community. Sisters and associates come
together for prayers, meetings, socials--both taking an active and participative
role.
Interested
adults, women and men, who are committed to a Christian life of faith and who
realize the expression of their call as Dominicans, are invited to apply to
become associates. The associate relationship is formalized and celebrated
through the ritual of covenant. The covenant is a mutual commitment and promise
to honor and live the call and mission of the Dominican Family.
Associates who desire a deeper and more complete commitment to the Dominican charism and mission may request to make a permanent covenant. The process for preparation for permanent covenant includes a response from the Kentucky Dominican Family.
Associates Make Permanent Covenant at St. Catharine's
On September 15th, in a spirit of gratitude and joy, Susan Barefoot, OPA, and Jane Roby, OPA, became the first associates of the Southern Region to make permanent covenants with the Dominicans of St. Catharine, Kentucky.
